EspañaThe working principle of structural rivets is slightly different from that of typical blind rivets. Structural blind rivets have a built-in (internal) locking mechanism designed to keep the mandrel inside the rivet after the exposed part is engaged. This is often called an interlocking rivet. Please note that in the picture on the right, the mandrel on the left side of the hat in the structural rivet is also much larger than the standard popular rivet.
After installation, there are many reasons why the structural rivets lock the mandrel in the cap:
Increase shear strength
Increase drawing strength
Higher vibration resistance
In some cases, they are also considered weatherproof
